LAND RECLAMATION METHODS IN SINGAPORE
LAND RECLAMATION METHODS IN SINGAPORE
Singapore has a lot of reclaimed land. In fact, over 100 square km of land in Singapore is reclaimed!
There are many different methods used for reclamation in Singapore for different areas. They all use the same method (clearing water, adding rock, filling with clay) but all areas of reclaimed land use different types of rock.
Many main islands in Singapore, such as Bukit Timah, use Granite as a base. Granite is a strong Igneous rock.
The western area of Singapore rests on the a base of Sandstone and Mudstone. Sandstone and Mudstone are Sedimentary rocks.
The north-eastern area is made of quartzite. Quartzite is a strong Metamorphic/Sedimentary rock.
